A very thin walled form, such as this, has a tendency to harbor stress points when it is stretched to paper thin.
I do believe that when the Soda vapors hit the side of the pot the fluxing action of the Soda relaxed that side causing the other side to develop a thin stress crack.
The piece was still photographed to capture the beauty of the glaze combinations and the crack is not noticeable to the eye.
